SENTrack: Chris Nelson's Saturday best bets at Eagle Farm (21/12)

Racing in Queensland today comes from Eagle Farm where the track has been posted a soft (5) rating this morning. The weather is fine & mostly sunny, expect an upgrade during the afternoon. Plenty of feature racing on the card which contains 10 races, the first of which will get under way at 12.13pm local time.

BEST BETS

RACE 2 # 3 ZAPHOD Lightly raced ex-Irish galloper whose only failure since landing in Australia was on this track when tiring down the straight. The firm ground may have had something to do with that however he also raced a little keenly breezing outside the leader. Far too good at his next start he spelled before returning with a cracking first up run at Rosehill when wide all the way.

RACE 3 # 2 BEZIQUE Hopefully black figures can be secured about this resuming mare from the leading Tony Gollan stable. Unlucky first up last prep when caught wide she then placed on three consecutive occasions in Listed company. Ideally placed against inferior opposition tomorrow having drawn favourably for leading jockey Emily Lang she’ll land on speed & secure the right run. Any give in the track will be a bonus.

RACE 5 # 9 MAZIS Still a maiden having had only the single start when well supported at Doomben in a recent midweeker. He ended up too far back in the run on that occasion however did find the line well over the concluding stages without being knocked about. This looks an open race & he’ll be suited stepping up in distance. No surprise to see him measure up.
