Dylan Brown won’t be the latest NRL star to switch codes after Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh denied rumours of the code’s interest in the Eels playmaker.

Reports emerged last week citing that Dylan Brown was set to field expressions of interest for next season, despite having player options up until 2031 in his contract.

Should the Eels five-eighth leave Parramatta, it would be a huge blow for new coach Jason Ryles. However, NRL fans can be reassured knowing Brown will be staying in rugby league.

“Not really,” Waugh said on SEN 1170 Mornings.

“I saw some commentary from RA on that and we are focused on our own backyard and want to keep on developing. We have got some great depth across all positions.

“(Coach) Joe (Schmidt) is building a strong culture in and amongst the group.”

If Brown departed the code, he would be the second high-profile player to recently make the move, after Joseph Sua'ali'i departed for the Wallabies at the end of the 2024 season.

The Eels’ playmaker shapes as an integral part of the Eels’ push for a finals return in 2025 and would have numerous clubs interested in his services should he opt to depart the blue and gold.

Brown made 24 appearances in 2024, scoring five tries and notching 18 try assists.
