The Hobart Hurricanes are through to the BBL|14 Final courtesy of a 12-run win over the Sydney Sixers at Bellerive Oval on Tuesday night.
Batting first, the Hurricanes put together a very defendable total of 7/173 thanks to Ben McDermott’s 42 (off 31), Caleb Jewell’s 40 (off 41) and Mitch Owen’s storming opening knock of 36 (off 15) which included three sixes.
Matthew Wade was unable to get in on the scoring act as Jack Edwards plucked an absolute ripper at point to get rid of the left-hander for just 4.
Tim David then chipped in with 25 (off 10) as the home side compiled a score that clearly applied plenty of pressure on the Sixers.
They were tied down early by Riley Meredith (2/34) and Cameron Gannon (2/10) who dismissed Josh Philippe and Jack Edwards for ducks with Moises Henriques going cheaply for just 1.
Those bowling spells set up the victory for Hobart despite the best efforts of Sixers opener Kurtis Patterson who made 48 (off 33) plus late-innings rallies from Jordan Silk (57 off 44) and Lachlan Shaw (33 not out off 25).
In the end the visitors would fall 12 runs short on 5/161, having to settle for the Challenger match where they will meet either Sydney Thunder or the Melbourne Stars at the SCG on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes will enjoy a few days away from the playing arena before they contest their first Final in seven years which we will be played in Hobart on Monday night.
The BBL|14 action continues on Wednesday night when the Thunder host the Stars at the Sydney Showground from 7:30pm AEDT. You can hear it LIVE on SEN.
