Liverpool have continued their 18 game unbeaten streak in the Premier League with a convincing 4-1 victory over relegation battling Ipswich overnight.
The 16th victory of the season for Liverpool means they keep their six point gap at the top of the table, whilst also maintaining a game in hand as the month of January nears its conclusion.
Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah and a double from Cody Gakpo, ensured the Reds would maintain their dominance at Anfield for another week.
Arsenal entered Wolverhampton on Sunday morning as heavy favourites to walk away with the three points in hand but found it more difficult then expected as they walked away 1-0 winners over Wolves.
Both the Gunners and the Wolves had nine shots for the game, with Wolverhampton having one more on target, as well as failing to complete the match with all 11 players on the field.
Both sides saw one of their players be sent off by the referee, with Joao Gomes for Wolves and Myles Lewis-Skelly for Arsenal now suspended for their next matches respectfully.
Four minutes after the Wolves were brought down to 10 men, Arsenal’s substitute Riccardo Calafiori knocked in a beautiful half volley to give the Gunners a much needed win as they continue to stay in touch with the title race.
They would be extra pleased as well with the result that happened at the Vitality Stadium, as the in form Bournemouth were able to destroy Nottingham Forest 5-0 in one of the more unexpected results of the season.
A Dango Ouattara hattrick was the catalyst for the thumping win for the Cherries, as they now have recorded back to back games with scoring four or more goals.
It’s a devastating blow for Forest, who now with this result see themselves slip back to being nine points behind Liverpool at the top of the table, as well as a full game and a 17 goal differential away from Arsenal who are in second.
Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea puts more pressure on this young Forest side as well, who are staring down the barrel of dropping out of the top four if they’re not able to find a way back into form quickly.
City’s win over Chelsea now sees them extend their unbeaten run to six games, as well as being within a game of third position.
The efforts of Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden helped rectify their horror start, after Noni Madueke capitalised on a horrible defensive error that gave Chelsea the lead three minutes into the match.
And despite conceding the first goal inside 10 minutes away from home as well, Newcastle were able to wrestle their way back into dominant form against Southampton to ultimately walk away 3-1 victors.
This result for the Magpies sees themselves level with City on points, but only goal differential away from being fourth instead of fifth on the Premier League table.
An Alexander Isak double, plus a Sandro Tonali sealer helped ensure that Newcastle would now extend their hot recent form to seven games from their last eight being unbeaten. A feat that has seen them climb their way back into Champions League qualification discussions with only 15 matchdays left to come.
Everton continue their fight to stay up in the top flight after they were able to knock off Brighton away from home.
The 1-0 win for the Toffees gives them their first victory away from home under manager David Moyes, who is returning for his second stint as the head coach after the sacking of Sean Dyche.
Everton now remain seven points clear of the drop zone, with a game in hand as well after they were able to pick up their second win in a row.
Brighton on the other hand, now risk falling out of ninth position again, with a Fulham victory over Manchester United meaning they’ll fall to 10th.
Fulham and United headline the matches to come on Monday morning, with United looking to pick up some points to help rectify their recent poor form in the Premier League and ultimately crawl themselves away from the relegation zone.
Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs side will look to bounce back from their 3-2 loss to Everton in their last Premier League outing, when they host a struggling Leicester City side that hasn’t picked up a point in its last five games.
Crystal Palace and Brentford will clash in an intriguing match up for neutrals, as Brentford go into the game having won only one game from their last five matches and Palace having won three from their past five games.
Aston Villa will enter their game against West Ham knowing what they can achieve with a win at home, after results overnight have opened the door for them to get within two points of the top four and keep their Champions League qualifications hopes alive as well.
