Eddie Betts truly believes that Carlton can win the premiership in 2025.
The former Blues star reckons Michael Voss has the weapons at his disposal to lead the club to its first flag since 1995.
Expectations surrounding the Blues have been high over the last few years and that is the case again ahead of the 2025 season, especially if star forwards Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay can play the majority of games.
“I still have a passion and a want for them to win,” Betts said on SEN Afternoons from the Fox Footy launch.
“We say it every year, ‘this is the year for them’. I truly believe that they could go all the way.
“Honestly, if they are injury free, if Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay stay injury free, if Charlie gets on his bike and just takes that forward line by the scruff the neck, then they could be anything.”
Aside from the gun goal kickers, Betts is a true believer in the Blues because of the quality midfield group which has been boosted by No.3 draft pick Jagga Smith.
“Then you’ve got Patrick Cripps, the two-time Brownlow Medallist, you’ve got Sam Walsh and if you add Jagga Smith, the Pick 3,” Betts continued.
“Jagga Smith, I believe, is primed and ready. You put him with Cripps and Walsh, and he doesn’t have to be the bully inside there. He’s quick, he’s agile, from all reports from pre-season he’s just flying.
“The only downfall is ‘Newy’ (Nic Newman) who has done his knee.”
The Blues played in the 2023 Preliminary Final after finishing fifth, before scraping into eighth last year, succumbing to eventual premiers the Brisbane Lions in the Elimination Final.
Betts also commented on the Indigenous All Stars game, his other former club the Adelaide Crows and reaching out to Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.
