The Gold Coast Titans have confirmed their interest to be one of the next teams selected to play in the Las Vegas season opener.
The NRL signed a five-year deal with Allegiant Stadium to host a rugby league showcase until 2028. The Brisbane Broncos were the lone Queensland team in 2024 but there is no team in 2025 to represent the sunshine state.
SEN’s Corey Parker noted that the hype for the Las Vegas season opener in Queensland was far less than the previous year.
Titans CEO Steve Mitchell said that the team is aiming for Sin City in 2027 but would be happy to receive the call-up for next season.
“We didn’t want to go over in coach Des Hasler’s first year (in charge) and for the second year, we felt probably the same,” Mitchell told SENQ Breakfast.
“I think (Vegas) is phenomenal for the game from a headline point of view, going into new markets and exciting our (existing) audience and new audiences is really good.
“There is no doubt though that it is a very logistical start to the season and if you want to get off to a good start to the year, you need the least amount of distractions as possible.
“We are hopefully coming into a competitive window so we’d be happy to go in 2027 to be honest. Just while we settle this current group of players in.
“We are not running there at the moment. We need to make sure our program is right and we deliver for our fanbase.
“If we get the tick next year, we will go.”
The Titans have the bye in the opening round of the season before travelling to Belmore in Round 2 to take on the Bulldogs on March 16.
