TEAMS | Swans, Hawks, Giants and Magpies name line-ups for Opening Round

The first team line-ups have dropped for 2025, with Sydney, Hawthorn, GWS and Collingwood naming their sides for Opening Round.

While the Swans and Hawks have named their starting 23s, the Giants and Magpies have currently named extended benches given they face off on Sunday.

Sydney v Hawthorn – SCG – Friday night

For the Swans, they’ve named two debutants in Tom Hanily and Ben Paton. Tom Papley and Brodie Grundy both have been named for the clash despite having ankle and knee concerns respectively.

The Hawks have a much clearer image on the injury front, with Calsher Dear (back) and Changkuoth Jiath (hip) also missing out on selection. Backline recruits Tom Barrass and Josh Battle have been named for their club debuts.

Looking at the other game, GWS lost all of Tom Green (calf), Jesse Hogan (thumb) and recruit Jake Stringer (hamstring) in the lead-up to the clash. In their place, some inexperienced names have been named on the extended bench.

For the Magpies, they’ve picked a near full-strength line-up with the only certain starters sitting out being Jordan De Goey (knee) and Dan Houston (suspension). Harry Perryman and Tim Membrey will make their club debuts.
