Liverpool have found themselves clear at the top of the Premier League table by a whopping 16 points after defeating Southampton 3-1 overnight.

The bottom of the table side surprised the Reds by opening the scoring right on half time, with William Smallbone scoring his first goal of the season.

From there, Liverpool took control of the contest and eased their way to their 21st victory of the season, thanks to strikes from Darwin Nunez (51st minute) and Mohamed Salah (54th minute and 88th minute).

Liverpool’s cross town rivals Everton extended their unbeaten streak to eight games after they drew with 17th placed Wolverhampton.

The 1-1 draw between the two sides was more entertaining then what the scoreboard shows, as both sides had plenty of chances late to steal the victory from each other.

Jack Harrison (33rd minute) and Marshall Munetsi (40th minute) were the only two players who were able to find the back of the net, despite there being 23 shots between the two teams.

Aston Villa grinded their way to another victory in the Premier League, after they edged out Brentford 1-0 away from home.

Ollie Watkins’ strike in the 49th minute was enough to get the three points for Villa, who now have won two of their last three matches.

The win from Villa sees them put pressure on Chelsea who are fifth and only one point ahead of the side from Birmingham.

Villa are also trailing Brighton by only the one point after the Seagulls came from behind to beat Fulham at home 2-1.

A Joao Pedro penalty in the 90th minute saw the Seagulls pick up their fourth win in a row, as well as edge even close to a European birth come seasons end.

Manchester City will be worried with their positioning in the top four after losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest away from home.

The reigning champions now see themselves only one point clear of fifth and three points clear of eighth, with Chelsea (fifth) and Newcastle (eighth) still to play in this match week.

The win for Forest also sees themselves go one step closer to cementing their spot inside the top four, as they are now back within a games reach of second place Arsenal and are four points clear of fourth with only 10 games left in the season.

Crystal Palace’s impressive run of form continues, as they recorded their fourth win from their past fives games thanks to a 1-0 victory over Ipswich.

Ismaila Sarr’s 82nd minute strike proved to be the only difference between the two sides, despite the Eagles dominating and recording up to 19 shots for the whole match.

The loss to Crystal Palace, plus Wolverhampton’s draw with Everton, means avoiding relegation has become a lot harder for Ipswich town, as they now find themselves six points away from safety.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham have an all important clash with Bournemouth on Monday morning, where the Spurs will be looking to bounce back from their loss to Manchester City, as well as move closer to getting back inside the top 10 of the table before seasons end.

A win for Chelsea against Leicester City will see the Blues move inside the top four for the end of matchday 28. They lock horns with each other on Monday morning as well.

And Manchester United will be looking to do Liverpool a favour, as they try to defeat Arsenal at home to round out the Premier League for this week.

The last time these two sides faced each other was in the FA Cup, where United surprised the world in defeating the Gunners on penalties.
