"So proud": Bendigo Spirit break 11-year WNBL title drought

Bendigo Spirit claimed its first WNBL title in more than a decade after beating the Townsville Fire 63-55 in Game 2 to wrap up the 2024-25 season.

Victory secured Spirit their third WNBL title and first since 2013-14 season.

Regular season MVP Sami Whitcomb picked up another season accolade in being named Grand Final MVP scored game-high 26 points.

“Honestly, there is no other team I would rather have won with," a thrilled Whitcomb said after the final siren.

"It felt inevitable with this group; it felt like we were building something from the beginning.

"This was hard and so, so tough, but we earned it, and I'm so proud."

Marianna Tolo was also pivotal for the Spirit scoring 17 points with nine rebounds.
