David Schwarz is tipping St Kilda to cause a big Round 1 upset over Adelaide.
The Crows head into the game as heavy $1.36 favourites on Sportsbet, while the Saints enter the game as $3.17 outsiders.
While many are simply expecting Matthew Nicks’ side to improve this year and get the job done at home in Round 1, Schwarz is refusing to buy into the hype.
Instead, he’s got the Saints going over to the City of Churches and winning on Sunday afternoon, even with the likes of Max King, Mitch Owens, Mattaes Phillips, Dougal Howard, Liam Henry and Cooper Sharman all sidelined.
Schwarz is also disregarding St Kilda’s 44-point AAMI Community Series loss to Port Adelaide at Moorabbin, chalking that defeat up to coach Ross Lyon not showing his hand in a practice match.
“My big call is St Kilda knocking off Adelaide,” Schwarz told SEN The Captain’s Run.
“I’m not a believer in Adelaide just yet.
“For St Kilda, I watched their practice match against Port Adelaide, and if they weren’t playing dead … they’ll get smashed by the Crows.
“But I think they were playing dead and that Ross Lyon was playing games (against the Power).
“So I’ve got St Kilda in an upset over Adelaide. It’s my big call.”
Sunday’s game between the Crows and Saints at the Adelaide Oval begins at 12:35 pm (AEDT).
