The $19 chance who is “absolutely wound up” for the Golden Slipper

Lindsay Park will saddle up Tycoon Star in this Saturday’s $5 million Golden Slipper at Rosehill.

The Written Tycoon colt, owned by Yu Long Investments, has been racing well without luck which has likely contributed to his current price of $19 with Sportsbet.

Co-trainer JD Hayes was asked: Can he win the Slipper?

“We feel like he can,” he said confidently on SENTrack’s Giddy Up.

“He’s had the benefit of a run there, he got it a bit wrong up the straight where he wanted to lay out.

“With the experience under his belt he’s bounced out of the run, he’s rock-hard fit, he’s impressed in track work at home.

“We’ve got a nice barrier (5) with a good jockey (Mark Zahra) on board. It ticks a lot of boxes and I think he’s over the odds at 19-1.”

Tycoon Star ran fourth in the Group 2 Todman Stakes over 1200m behind Tentyris at Randwick last time out.

According to Hayes there should be plenty of improvement to come in the race he has been set for.

“Absolutely, I think he’ll be absolutely wound up for his Grand Final,” he added.

“We’ve got him as best as he can and if we get the luck in running I think he’ll run better than his odds suggest in what looks a pretty open Slipper.”

Of all of the Lindsay Park gallopers this weekend, Hayes says he’d spend $100 on Tycoon Star at very handsome odds.

“I’d go $50 each-way on Tycoon Star,” Hayes said.

“Hopefully that gives you some drinking money if it gets up.”

The Golden Slipper jumps at 4:35pm AEDT on Saturday.
