Footy is a brutal sport but the off-field sledging is becoming equally vicious, particularly when it comes to former players taking aim at Kane Cornes.
SEN Fireball’s David King has described the current spate of vitriol being aimed at his co-host Cornes as “a sport that’s unhealthy” with Tom Sheridan the latest to have a go.
Earlier this week the former Freo and Giants player described Cornes as “a dirty stinking tagger, slow and horrific footballer to watch”.
Sheridan didn’t hold back in his extended criticism of Cornes which included mentions of Tim Taranto and Harley Reid.
This morning Cornes returned serve.
"I’m probably not going to cop it from an 83-game park footballer." 🔥

“I thought it was worthy of a response,” he said on Fireball. “When do you know life after football isn’t going that well for you? Is it when you put the person’s name into Google and the first thing that comes up is “dropped mark”.
“I’m happy to be criticised by Dane Swan, if Gary Ablett Jnr or Sammy Mitchell wanted to have a say on my career fine.
“I’m probably not going to cop it from an 83-game park footballer whose one career highlight was dropping a soda in a prelim final that cost your team the game.”
Cornes was referring to the infamous moment Sheridan dropped a mark against Hawthorn which gifted Cyril Rioli a goal.
Just nine points had separated the two sides in the final quarter with 13 minutes left on the clock when disaster struck for Sheridan and a Grand Final berth for Freo was lost.
Cornes was not done there.
“When do you know life after football is completely off track? When you bring your own highlights and maybe there is only one highlight. I wasn’t tagging a 10-game Tommy Sheridan who was averaging 8.7 touches.
“When do know life’s not going well after football number 3, when you’re on a podcast that is actually costing you money to make.
“I’d go through the rankings of the podcasts there’s no way this is making revenue. I had to scroll down to the 100s before it even gets a mention in the rankings. So life is going difficult.
“When do you know it’s going poorly after football number four? When you finally get a gig on TV, a late night show, that doesn’t last 12 months and gets cancelled.
“So for the park footballer, life’s not going that well.”
