Following Reef McInnes’ unfortunate ACL injury, the Magpies have already begun plans to attack the mid-season draft.

With McInnes leaving a hole in their back half, Collingwood are set to scout a potential replacement to operate as a general defender.

SEN newsman Tom Morris reported this morning that the Pies have already identified two like-for-like replacements in the form of Adam Tomlinson and Charlie McCartin.

“Collingwood has a spot in the mid-season draft that they are trying to fill, because Reef McInnes is out for the season with an ACL,” Morris told SEN Breakfast.

“They are looking for a like-for-like type, they have got Adam Tomlinson on their radar who played for the Giants, Melbourne and is (at) North Melbourne VFL this season and playing well.

“They have also got Charlie McCartin on their radar. The middle brother of Tom McCartin and Paddy McCartin.

“Charlie McCartin is in his mid-20s, he played at Lorne last reason, clubs were circling.

“The overriding view around Charlie McCartin was that Lorne Football Club, full respect to Lorne, wasn’t at a high enough standard to accurately represent whether he would be able to step up to the AFL.

“But now he’s playing Geelong VFL, and he’s playing really well early in the season as a defender. A left footed, intercept defender, that’s his style so keep an eye on him.”

Over two games in the VFL, McCartin is averaging 18 disposals and 9 marks, while former Demon Adam Tomlinson has managed 25.5 disposals and 8.5 marks per game.

The mid-season draft is set to take place in May.
