What McRae texted Voss ahead of MCG “s**tfight”

Collingwood coach Craig McRae has revealed what he said in a text to under fire Carlton boss Michael Voss ahead of their blockbuster clash this Thursday.

With his side 0-3 despite leading at stages in all three games this season, Voss is a man under pressure with some media speculating he has just weeks to save his job.

So as McRae watched his three-time Brisbane premiership captain slump to a third straight loss against the Bulldogs on Saturday, he reached out.

“I actually texted (Voss) on Saturday morning,” McRae told the Herald Sun..

“I just watched the game (against the Bulldogs) and watched him closely as a mate.

“This is a unique job … There are only 17 others doing the same crazy job.

“I understand what you have to navigate through at times … I reached out to him to see if he was OK. (But) this is probably not the week to catch up.”

The two coaches won three consecutive flags together while playing for the Lions in the early 2000s and have remained close friends ever since.

Under McRae, Collingwood boast a 5-1 winning record against Carlton, but the stat will mean little when it comes to this week’s showdown.

“If you speak to anyone that is Collingwood or anyone that is Carlton, this game means more,” McRae said.

“There are four points (for games) and then there is this game.

“You know they (Carlton) are going to turn up, you know there is going to be a s---fight and you bring your best version and struggle through it.”
