Carlton have once again failed to capitalise on a half-time lead, remaining winless through four after falling to Collingwood by 17 points at the MCG.
The Blues have been in front at every main break in 2025, taking a narrow four-point advantage into half-time of their Thursday night clash with the Magpies.
A four-goal-to-nil third quarter only reinforced Carlton's second-half concerns, as Collingwood's midfield domination began to significantly sway the contest. The Blues once again managed just two goals after half-time.
A September charge was the expectation in pre-season, but four losses from four games to start the year now leaves Michael Voss staring down the barrel.
VOSS UNDER THREAT
While no immediate action is expected to be taken regarding Voss's future as Carlton coach, time is ticking and there are signs that should worry the 49-year-old.
In his post match media Voss slammed the “completely unacceptable” start to the season and said he and his coaching staff were on the hook just as much as the players.
But it was something that happened in the rooms after the siren that Channel 7's Mitch Cleary said should have the boss worried.
"He (Voss) says they’re having tough conversations behind closed doors but I think Carlton fans are getting frustrated by the narrative coming out of the club," Cleary told SEN's Fireball.
"Looking at the rooms, you see these corridor chats with the president, directors, executives.
"It starts to get a bit ominous when those quiet conversations break away in the rooms as the players have their meeting."
Pushed on whether he thought time was up for Voss, Cleary added: "Not immediately but I’ve been in the room enough times that when you see those quiet conversations in the corner is when the pressure starts to mount.
"I don’t think Voss in threat of losing his job in the short term but it’s going to have to be looked at in the near future if these results continue to come.
"I can't understate how big of a week it’s going to be at Ikon Park."
PIES FLY BUT HOUSTON HAS A PROBLEM
Dan Houston should be given at least a two-week ban for his head high bump on Lachie Fogarty, according to Kane Cornes and David King.
The incident occurred in the second quarter of Collingwood’s eventual 17-point win over Carlton at the MCG on Thursday night.
He addressed the hit with Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary after the game.
“I thought I had a fair play on the ball and obviously I’ve gone to protect myself and those things happen,” Houston said.
“I didn’t actually realise it happened until you mentioned it, I was fully focused on the team.
“I think it’s such a hard game to play, especially behind the ball. You’ve got to make those split-second decisions where you see the ball coming at you.”
GUNS AT THE MCG
Two men have been charged after Police allegedly found them in possession of loaded firearms at Thursday’s Collingwood v Carlton clash at the MCG.
Both men will now appear in the Melbourne magistrates court on Friday, and Seven’s Mitch Cleary revealed how Police allege they found the weapons just before half-time of the clash that was attended by over 82,000 fans.
The duo were also both out on bail at the time of the charge. It is unclear how the firearms were brought into the stadium.
“This was a major security breach,” Cleary said.
“Two men found their way into the MCG with loaded firearms. They've been remanded in custody overnight, and they will face court today.
“We know the process is meant to unfold outside the MCG when you enter the ground. I was even asked last night to take my laptop out as I went in.
“These two men were in an argument with security refusing to leave last night and it was then when Police were called and brought into the situation just before half-time.
“As part of that, Police searched both individuals (and found the firearms). The extra layer is that we’ve learned upon being charged, they were both out on bail.”
