Patrick Cripps has been accused of orchestrating an f-bomb filled interview in a bid to appeal to frustrated Carlton fans, but Garry Lyon isn't buying it.

With the Blues winless this season and pressure mounting on coach Michael Voss and his senior players, Cripps raised eyebrows as his emotions got the better of him.

Asked by the ABC if the season was not set to be a wasted opportunity, Cripps said: “Mate if I had the answers I wish I’d f-----g knew."

“I’m very bullish on what we can still do. Obviously you don’t want to be zip and four but f--- that’s where we’re at at the moment.”

The profanities drew criticism from Luke Hodge who accused the Blues captain of “orchestrating” the interview in a bid to show fans just how deep the frustrations run.

It’s a theory both Lyon and Tim Watson rejected.

“He dropped a couple of f-bombs,” Watson said on SEN Breakfast. “I haven’t heard him swear before. Did he bung it on a bit top appeal to the Carlton fans?”

Lyon replied: “That was his Christian Petracca moment, was it?

“I thought that was sheer frustration, I don’t think he’s that calculated Paddy Cripps, he doesn’t strike me as the sort that would say ‘I’m gonna get in here and drop some f-bombs’ to make a point’.

“He hasn’t struck me as that kind of person over his journey.”

Things will not get much easier for Carlton this weekend as they take on West Coast at Gather round with both sides looking to claim their first win of the season.

The Blues look set to welcome back Harry McKay who has missed the last three weeks for personal reasons.

“I think they will take a ruthless approach to a team that’s struggling more than they are,” Lyon said.

“Some players will get some good confidence if they can get a win. When you’re playing under a big dark cloud like this it can stifle you.”
