What were you doing at 14?
That’s the question of the morning in light of what’s just happened in the IPL.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a global sensation and an utter fascination after scoring a 35-ball century overnight for the Rajasthan Royals.
I don’t know about you, but if my son remembers his laptop and hat when he heads for the train station it’s a win.
Suryavanshi captured the imagination when he was drafted at 13 and then hit the first ball he faced on debut for six.
Now in his third innings, he’s struck 11 sixes and seven fours to post the second-fastest century in the competition’s history behind only Chris Gayle.
It has led to the rather ghastly nickname 'Boss Baby'.
The prodigy did it against an attack loaded with internationals – Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma, Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan.
It’s an astounding feat and one that’s difficult to comprehend.
From the towering straight hits to the inside-out driving, the slog sweeping and the crispest onside striking out of the slot you’ll see.
It’s every Indian cricket cliché seemingly rolled into one.
The chosen one is only supposed to come along once in living memory.
While eyebrows were raised when Rajasthan signed the then 13-year-old at the start of the season, no one is questioning their decision now.
Watch the innings here.
