In an incredibly touching moment at Ikon Park, Carlton’s Mia Austin dedicated her Elimination Final goal to her late cousin Ben in a beautiful tribute.
Last week, 17-year-old Ben Austin tragically passed away after being hit by a cricket ball during a net session at Ferntree Gully.
The incident rocked the sporting world, with tributes flowing from all corners of the country, including a beautiful moment at the MCG before Australia’s T20 match with India.
And during Carlton’s stunning 41-point Elimination Final victory over West Coast, Blue Mia Austin – the older cousin of Ben – dedicated a sealing goal to her late family member in a eye-watering moment at Ikon Park.
With 'BEN' written on her wrist tape, Austin's performance and goal honoured the life of young Ben.
“Early last week, my little cousin Benny passed away unfortunately,” Austin told Channel 7 post-game.
“My family’s here today - my uncle, my cousins. To honour him, I know if he was here, he would absolutely love it.
“It was a little tribute to him.”
Vale, Ben.
