Gather Round ins & outs: Carlton makes massive selection statement

Carlton has made a statement at the selection table by dropping reigning best and fairest George Hewett.

The midfielder has been omitted for Thursday night's Gather Round opener against the Crows at the Adelaide Oval despite leading the Blues for disposals with 22 in last weekend's loss to North Melbourne.

All-Australian defender Jacob Weitering is also out of for the Blues with concussion while Will Hayward is suspended.

Replacing that trio is Nick Haynes, Zac Williams and Hudson O'Keeffe.

The Crows lose Luke Pedlar to concussion and have axed Reilly O'Brien, Chayce Jones and Hugh Bond, with veteran Rory Laird, Isaac Cumming, Mitch Hinge and Luke Nankervis back in.
