Despite having re-signed Connor Tracey, Denan Kemp believes that the Bulldogs should look at signing Dolphins’ fullback Trai Fuller.
With Queensland and Australian representative Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow being the Dolphins' first-choice fullback, Fuller has struggled to find game time at the NRL level throughout his time at the club.
Across the last two seasons, the 29-year-old has only featured in six NRL games.
But when called upon, Fuller has proven to be a versatile player capable of playing multiple positions.
In his first start for the season, Fuller managed two try assists alongside five tackle breaks as the five-eighth in their 20-18 loss to the Warriors on ANZAC Day.
Whilst the back has an offer from the Dolphins to re-sign, Kemp thinks the Bulldogs, who currently rank 16th for points scored, should look to bring in Fuller to provide a point of difference.
“Trai Fuller, what do they do there?” Kemp pondered on SEN’s Saturday League Kick-Off.
“We just spoke about the Dogs and struggling for a spark. Why aren't the Dogs knocking on his door and saying, ‘Here's a two-year deal, come down and give us a crack’.”
Chad Townsend was in agreement, believing that Fuller needs to leave the Dolphins to find more consistent playing time.
“Unfortunately for Trai Fuller, I think he will need to move on from the Dolphins to further progress his career,” Townsend added.
“His playing time has been limited purely from the guys that are in front of him.
“Now Trai Fuller is absolutely an NRL standard quality player.
“I know he's playing a bit of a different role at the moment, a Mr Fix-It almost.
“But I actually think there's a team out there, like, as you just mentioned, like the Dogs who could come in and provide that spark (in attack).
“Because I just think his time at the Dolphins is being hampered.”
The Dolphins will look to continue their winning ways when they kickstart Round 10 against the Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium.
That takes place this Thursday from 7:50pm AEST with SEN League having live coverage of the match from 7pm across SEN’s radio network and on the SEN app.
