The extra time debate is once again in full swing following Thursday night's draw between Collingwood and Hawthorn.
Playing out a tie in a brilliant contest at the MCG, neither side went home with a desired result, finishing the contest at 93 apiece after Dylan Moore's leveller after the siren.
The draw has been a feature of the AFL since the beginning of time, and outside of finals footy, the two-point split has remained a staple in the game despite numerous draws over the game's history.
Despite that, premiership coach Adam Simpson believes a 'next score wins' style of extra play would be beneficial on multiple levels.
"The extra time - I think it's next score wins," Simpson told SEN's Whateley.
"The ratings on that and the eyes on that, if it was 'here we go, next score wins' (would be extraordinary).
"I think if it's next goal, it could be 15 minutes. Three minutes and three minutes... that's just footy. I want to see next score wins.
"Why wouldn't you do it? Is it the history piece? I just think it would be a rating bonanza, and people would just embrace it. When the word is out that it's a draw, here we go.
"The two minute drills you train at training, 'we're in next score wins mode guys'. You don't want to go all out attack, but you also don't want to go all out defence.
"I think it would be pretty cool to see."
Gerard Whateley added: "I would like to poll the 75,000 people at the ground, and just the 75,000 people at the ground.
"Are you prepared to lose, to win? Or are you taking your two points and going home."
Simpson:"No, win! Nobody is going for two points, I don't care who you are. If there is one bit of competitive instinct in your body, you are not going for a draw, are you?"
Whateley:"No! Not if you're the 75,000 there. I think it's fine to do it from a sterile point during the week, but in the hot-blooded moment of Thursday night, keep going."
Simpson: "It would have been so good. People talk about the wind and that sort of stuff... that's bad luck! If you had the wind for the whole quarter and you couldn't get in front, that's on you.
"I can't see any negativity towards it. Zero."
