The AFL has officially commenced its commemoration for the late Neale Daniher, paying an emotional tribute to the Essendon and Melbourne legend leading into Thursday's clash at Marvel Stadium.
Round 12's opener between St Kilda and Hawthorn saw fans observe a moment of silence and some touching words.
"We all lost a friend this week," said Hamish McLachlan. Things feel less without him. We pay tribute to an incredible Australian, Neale Daniher.
"We were inspired by a man whose courage in the face of adversity turned one of life's great challenges into a movement for all of us to be part of.

"He transformed personal suffering into national hope and collective action. And almost impossible to do, he united the football community. He went further and united a country.
"He showed us how to live a life full of purpose. He showed that a little, from many, could change the world. Some people leave their mark on the game, Neale left his mark on humanity.
"As we pause, we say thank you Neale. Your leadership, legacy and impact will be felt by generations to come."
Players from all clubs will wear black armbands across the weekend in tribute to Daniher.
