In Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, we could be witnessing the biggest cricketing arrival since Don Bradman.
The 15-year-old phenom made the most runs in the recent IPL season, plundering 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30 for the Rajasthan Royals, while also breaking Chris Gayle’s single-season sixes record with 65, surpassing the West Indian’s 59.
Sooryavanshi’s rise has been simply remarkable for a player so young, and SEN’s Tom Morris says fans in Australia need to wake up to what India could be producing.
Born in 2011, Morris is simply amazed by what Sooryavanshi is producing at such a young age.
“It’s incredible, Australia is either asleep or just waking up to potentially the biggest cricket arrival since Don Bradman,” Morris said on SEN Breakfast.
“This young kid is 15 years old. He made more IPL runs than anyone else this season. He hit more sixes than Chris Gayle did in his best season, and he had a strike rate of over 230.
“It is the most remarkable arrival. He won a car for hitting the most sixes and making the most runs… he can't drive the car for another three years.
“He's a proper prodigy. He's only played a few First-Class games, but everything he does is amazing. He hit Pat Cummins for two sixes over his head.
“Pat Cummins is going, ‘What is going on?’. He was born in 2011. It’s quite ridiculous.
“He will probably be in the squad for some games coming up (for India),
“He’s young, and he’s an absolutely extraordinary cricketer.”
Sooryavanshi is expected to be named in India’s squad for the upcoming white-ball tour of the UK later this month when India face England and Ireland in ODIs and T20s.
His elite talent is yet to translate to the red ball at the top level, as he’s currently played eight First-Class games for Bihar, averaging 17.25.
