Brendon McCullum has been sacked from his position as England's men's Test coach.

The bombshell report from SEN's Tom Morris emerged following their Test series loss to New Zealand. It was later confirmed by the ECB.

McCullum came into the role as their Test coach in 2022 which saw immediate change under his 'Bazball' approach to Test cricket.

The former New Zealand international had his role expanded in 2025, which saw him take over the coaching of both the ODI and T20 teams. He will remain in those roles.

Despite initial success, England would later struggle with the aggressive style having failed to regain the Ashes urn against Australia last summer alongside series defeats against India in India and the Kiwis at home.

The ECB have since come out and confirmed the report in a statement with McCullum putting his remaining focus towards the white ball game.

“I've absolutely loved coaching the Test side and I'm incredibly proud of what we've achieved together. There've been some unbelievable highs and a few tough days along the way, but that's all part of taking on a challenge like this," McCullum said.

“It’s been a privilege and an honour, and I’m grateful. Grateful to the players, the staff and the fans who supported us on the journey.

“Of course I'm gutted not to be continuing, but I respect the decision. My focus now is on giving everything I've got to the White Ball teams and helping England keep moving forward.

“I wish the Test team nothing but success. There's a hell of a lot of talent in that dressing room and they're a special bunch of lads. I'll always be backing the boys, with a smile on my face, and hoping they keep taking the game on. I know they'll continue to make people proud.”

McCullum finishes his Test coaching with England with 27 wins and two draws from 49 Tests in charge.
