Geelong has confirmed Max Holmes will undergo surgery on the ankle he injured on Thursday night.

The star Cat went down awkwardly during the fourth quarter of 27-point win over St Kilda at GMHBA Stadium and appeared to be in significant pain as he came off the ground.

He was in a moonboot and required crutches to get around after the final siren.

Holmes will now go under the knife to repair a fracture of his right ankle as well as a syndesmosis issue.

"The Geelong Football Club can provide an update on Max Holmes following Thursday night's victory over St Kilda," read a club statement.

"Following further medical assessment, Max Holmes will undergo surgery today to repair a right ankle fracture and syndesmosis injury.

"The Club will provide a return to play timeframe following initial progress post-surgery."

The news comes just days after superstar forward Jeremy Cameron suffered a shoulder injury which also requires surgery and will sideline him for four to six weeks.

Holmes has arguably been Geelong's best player in 2026.

Despite the win, it was a tough night for the Cats who had Shaun Mannagh finish on the bench with ice on his hamstring.
