Cristian Volpato has been caught speeding and has allegedly tested positive to cocaine, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The recently new Socceroo, 22, was caught doing over 50km/h over the speed limit in his BMW across Anzac Bridge in Sydney not long after 1am on Friday morning.

Volpato, from Italian club Seire A Sassuolo, then had a drug test where he tested positive for cocaine. He told officers he had not taken any drugs.

Strangely, Volpato had been nabbed only two hours prior for doing more than 20km/h over the speed limit. He was issued an infringement notice, before returning to the scene of the initial incident.

The Sydney-born attacking midfielder, who has been linked to Fiorentina, has had his driver’s licence suspended for six months. He is yet to be charged criminally.

Volpato played at U19, U20 and U21 level for Italy before pledging allegiance to Australia prior to the FIFA World Cup where he featured three times in gold and green.

The former Roma player was set to depart Australia for Italy on Friday for pre-season training with Sassuolo.
