Stumps & Bumps: door ajar for a Konstas Test return

After an explosive start to his career at the 2024 Boxing Day Test against India, Sam Konstas now sits on the outer without a full time contract for the 2026-27 season.

Konstas' debut made headlines worldwide when he took on India’s spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, smashing him for 18 runs in a single over. But after a challenging Tour of the West Indies in 2025, he has yet to play a Test match since.

SEN Cricket’s Bharat Sundaresan thinks that the door isn’t shut on a potential comeback to the Australian side, after Konstas was named in the Cricket Australia XI to take on Bangladesh ahead of the Top End series this August.

“He'll keep getting these chances, whether it's for Australia A or for the Prime Minister's XI to remind the selectors of what he is capable of because we've seen that there is something there for sure,”

"He's still in his early 20s. So if he can make runs in the next three, four years, the ball will be in his court because there's not heavy competition for that opening slot, he could very well just come back. And he has already played Test cricket and that does have some value for sure. So it's going to be interesting to see how Sam Konstas goes from here".
