Former AFL player manager found guilty of rape

Former AFL player manager Ralph Carr can be identified as the high-profile businessman found guilty of rape.

Carr was last week found guilty by a County Court jury of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

That jury found beyond reasonable doubt that Carr had raped and sexually assaulted a woman at his home on March 23, 2023.

His identity had been protected by a suppression order since 2023, preventing the publication of his name.

The gag order was imposed after Carr’s psychiatrist said his safety and mental health would be put in danger if he was identified in media reports.

A veteran entertainment manager, Carr was best-known in footy circles for his long-time union with Richmond legend and Brownlow medallist Dustin Martin.

He also represented former Tigers Daniel Rioli and Shai Bolton.

Martin, who is now represented by TGI Sports, released a statement today.

“I was shocked to learn of the outcome of the court proceedings,” Martin said.

“I had no knowledge whatsoever of the conduct that led to these convictions. My thoughts are with those affected.

“Effective immediately, I have ended my professional relationship with my former manager.

“As this is a legal matter, I will not be making any further comment.”

Carr’s lawyers last week said he intended to appeal the jury’s verdict. He will first be sentenced, however, which is expected to take place next month.
