The Perth Bears have added some Origin quality to their forward pack, having confirmed the signature of Corey Horsburgh to join the NRL’s 18th side ahead of its inaugural season.

The prop joins the Western Australian club on a three-year deal, marking the end of his eight seasons with the Canberra Raiders under Ricky Stuart.

Known for being a hot head on the field, the relationship between Horsburgh and Stuart took a turn for the worse after he publicly criticised his player for a ‘f---ing brain explosion’ which saw him earn a sin bin in their 30-24 loss against the Knights.

Soon after that incident, the Bears were reported to be a potential suitor for the Queensland representative, who has now secured his services.

Speaking in his announcement statement, the 28-year-old is looking forward to being a part of a side from day one.

“This is a decision I’m very excited about,” he said.

“The chance to be part of something from the ground up doesn’t come around often, and I want to be one of the players who helps build this club into something special from day one.

“Having Mal as Head Coach was a big factor in this decision. He’s an Immortal and a Queensland and Raiders legend, so getting the chance to learn from someone with his knowledge of the game and what it takes to win will be awesome.

“Playing under a coach like Mal, who’s done it all in this game, gives me a lot of confidence in where this club is heading.”

Horsburgh will be alongside the likes of Scott Sorensen, Morgan Smithies and Josh Curran in the forward pack.

This will be the third club the front rower will play for, having previously played for Canberra and the Bulldogs on a two-game loan spell in 2021.

The Bears enter the competition in 2027.
