Former Roo interested in North coaching job

Daniel Pratt is interested in the North Melbourne coaching role.

The Western Bulldogs assistant is a former Kangaroos defender who has made no secret of his desire to step into the senior coaching caper.

Pratt, who showed interest in both the Carlton and Essendon jobs recently, says the Arden Street vacancy is in his sights.

“It’s of interest to me. I’m a North Melbourne person,” Pratt said on SEN’s Captain’s Run.

“When you’re a past player of any club you always have interest.

“So I am interested in that role and we’ll just see where that leads the next few weeks.”

SEN’s Sam Edmund reported earlier this week that Pratt is among those who the Roos have contacted in the preliminary stages of their hunt to replace Alastair Clarkson.

Pratt, 43, had two stints at North (2001-2002 and 2005-2011), the second in which he played 116 games in royal blue and white after three games with the Brisbane Lions in 2004.

From a coaching viewpoint, he has been with the Dogs since arriving at the Whitten Oval at the end of 2023. He was named the AFLCA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2024.

Prior to that he spent time with Dogs coach Luke Beveridge at Box Hill (when Bevo was Hawks assistant), before moving to West Coast where he started as a development coach in 2014.

He was the backline coach when his former Roos teammate Adam Simpson led the Eagles to the 2018 premiership.

Pratt also spent the 2021 season as AFLW head coach at the Eagles.
