Cat requests trade to the Bombers
Cal Twomey has reported that Jack Bowes has requested a trade to Essendon.
The Bombers came hard for Jack Bowes ahead of the 2023 season, with the then Gold Coast Sun instead opting to join the Cats.
Four off-seasons later, the out-of-favour midfielder has requested to join Essendon, marking his third AFL club.
In those four years, Bowes played 69 games, only managing nine in 2026.
Goater requests trade to Hawthorn
North Melbourne's Josh Goater is set to leave Arden St, with SEN's Tom Morris reporting that he will request a trade to join Hawthorn.
The 23-year-old has struggled to find game time in his five seasons with the Kangaroos due to injury, having played 18 games across his career.
Eagles keen on premiership Cat
The West Coast Eagles have flagged their interest in Geelong premiership player Gryan Miers.
The small forward has established himself as one of the game’s premier kicks inside 50, however, suffered from an ongoing knee concern that kept him to 17 games in 2026.
Averaging over 20 touches a game over the past three seasons, Miers has garnered interest out West, with the Eagles keen to explore any potential moves if the Cats permit.
“West Coast has flagged its interest in Geelong forward Gryan Miers,” Twomey told Gettable on Trade Radio.
“He has two years left to go on his deal with the Cats. Has been keen to remain at Geelong, but the Eagles have a level on interest in him and have asked the question about him in recent times.
“This is one I’m just keeping an eye on. At this point, contracted for two more years at the cattery, premiership player there in 2022.
“I think it’s a name that is going to get a bit more traction in the next couple of weeks.
“Ultimately it will be up to him if he does want to stay or go and how far West Coast and potentially other clubs now put up their hands and say, ‘we’re in for this’.
“But West Coast has certainly flagged that they do have interest in Gryan Miers.
“The Eagles are of course also looking at Trent Rivers from Melbourne and also Jack Viney, who has been in Perth this week.
“A little bit on their plate there if Gryan Miers does progress this at all.”
Lions premiership player requests trade
Sam Marshall has requested a trade to St Kilda.
The 2025 premiership player had been tossing up options with both Saints and Essendon with a third season at the Lions also believed to have been an option.
But the lure of returning to Victoria looks to have won, as have the Saints.
The 20-year-old, who also courted interested form the Dogs and Demons, only played twice in 2026 off the back of 11 games the year before - including the Grand Final.
The Lions have now confirmed Marshall's desire to depart.
"The Brisbane Lions confirm premiership midfielder Sam Marshall has requested to be traded to St Kilda," read a club statement.
"Marshall has played 13 games, including the 2025 Premiership, across two seasons since being selected in the first round of the 2024 draft as a graduate of the Youi Brisbane Lions Academy.
"The club respects Marshall’s request to be traded, and will work towards facilitating an outcome that best reflects true value to the Brisbane Lions for the 20-year-old."
Hawthorn has increased its offer for Calsher Dear.
SEN’s Tom Morris is reporting that the Hawks have upped the money on offer for the 21-year-old who has a contract on the table from Melbourne.
Morris highlighted the fact that the Hawks are still looking to finalise a deal for Gold Coast’s Ben King who is under the CDG Sports banner alongside Dear.
The youngster has struggled to play regular senior footy for the Hawks in 2026 and that task could be made tougher by King's likely arrival.
But the Hawks have still increased their offer.
“The Hawks have upped their deal for Calsher Dear. They remain at two years, mostly because that’s all that Dear wants from the Hawks given there’s no certainty if he’ll play AFL in the future or not,” Morris told SEN.com.au.
“We know that Melbourne’s offer is at four years. But the Hawks have raised the finances to try to convince him to stay.
“He has a huge decision to make. The Melbourne deal is more enticing and it’s more likely he’ll play senior football in the near term with the Demons.
“The other wrinkle here is his manager is Julian Petracca. Ben King’s manager is Robbie D’Orazio and those two things go together - the fact that King is coming in might affect Dear’s ability to play senior football.
“I’ve got no doubt there’s conversations going on with those two agents, the Hawks, the Gold Coast Suns and also Melbourne.
“But the Hawks are still keen to keep Dear, and even though the initial deal was modest, it has been raised in recent times from a financial perspective.”
Melbourne is backing out of a possible Lachie Whitfield deal.
Tom Morris is reporting that the Demons are not prepared to spend the draft capital required to land the GWS star.
The Giants are asking for a pick in the top 20 which the Dees are not prepared to part with leaving Carlton as the favourites to trade for the 32-year-old two-time All-Australian.
“Carlton are very much into him, we know that,” Morris said on AFL Trade Radio.
“Not only do people at Carlton and the Giants believe that he will nominate Carlton as his preferred destination via a trade, I also understand that Melbourne is walking back its interest.
“Not because they’re not interested in Whitfield, more because they’re baulking at what the Giants want for him.
“The Giants want a top-20 pick, Melbourne are saying absolutely no way.
“They’re not out of Lachie Whitfield per se, because they still like him as a player, but they’ve essentially walked away unless the Giants relax what they are asking for in return.
“Which means Carlton is not just in the box seat, they are the heavy favourite to land him if they can come up with that sort of draft capital.”
