Essendon likes Laitham Vandermeer and are considered the frontrunner to land the services of the Western Bulldog.

The 27-year-old is contracted with the Dogs until the end of 2028 but after playing just two games this year, he could look elsewhere.

Port Adelaide have also shown an interest in Vandermeer, contemplating him as a piece in any Zak Butters trade, but AFL Media’s Riley Beveridge is reporting that the Bombers are “viewed as the lead contender”.

Vandermeer was drafted by the Bulldogs in 2018 and has played 89 games.

Amartey paperwork lodged

Paperwork for the Joel Amartey trade has been lodged.

Carlton will land the 27-year-old key forward as an unrestricted free agent.

The Sydney Swans will learn of their compensation today, according to AFL Media's Cal Twomey.

Dear to remain at Hawthorn

Calsher Dear is set to stay at Hawthorn.

Twomey says the 21-year-old will pen a two-year deal to stay in brown and gold despite Melbourne's serious interest.

Viney confident Eagles deal gets done

Jack Viney is confident a deal will get done between Melbourne and West Coast.

The veteran midfielder, who is contracted until 2028, was told to explore his options by the Demons and has since held talks with both Essendon and the Eagles.

But it looks as though he’ll make the move west to continue his career under former Demons assistant Andrew McQualter.

“There’s a lot to weigh up. Had a look around the last couple of days,” Viney told Channel 10 Perth.

“A bit to think about with the family and hopefully make a decision soon.

“It’s a great club, a big club. The family decision is going to be a big one.

“It was a bit to process early days but we’re here now, so we’ll make the best of the opportunity.”

Asked if he was hopeful if a deal will get done, Viney said: “Yeah, it will get done, mate.”
