Garry Lyon has endorsed Carlton’s trade for GWS star Lachie Whitfield, believing Blues fans should be excited.

On Tuesday, Whitfield’s move was made official with Carlton giving up two second-round picks and a future third round whilst receiving a second-round and third-round pick alongside the 32-year-old.

The long-time Giant has been a staple for the club off half back having earned two All-Australian selections alongside two club best and fairest medals.

And following the move, the Demons legend believes Whitfield makes an immediate improvement to the side through his ball movement.

“Lachie Whitfield, he is a magnificent pickup,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“I wanted to say that. For the Carlton Footy Club, you should be excited.

“I know you had a bad weekend, but in terms of getting Lachie Whitfield through the door.

“I know you've improved your ball movement and you improved the way you kicked the footy in the back half of last year, but under some pressure there were some things that came back a little bit.

“You've just recruited one of the men that can fix that overnight.

“I love the way he uses the footy, which has been an issue for the Bluebaggers.

Tim Watson was in agreement, calling him an excellent addition for Carlton.

“He's an excellent addition to their team,” he added.

Carlton have also added Joel Amartey to their list.
