An update has been provided regarding the two jockeys involved in the Caulfield Cup’s horror fall, which saw Mark Zahra and Jye McNeil both dislodged from their mounts after a fall from both Half Yours and Ohope Wins.

The MRC’s John Kanga announced on Sunday morning that the 39-time Group 1 winner Mark Zahra was discharged from hospital “late last night”, while the 2020 Melbourne Cup winner Jye McNeil remains in hospital.

Thankfully McNeil has avoided any serious injuries, and he is expected to be discharged, if all goes well.

Regarding Half Yours and Ohope Wins, the 2025 Cup-double winner showed minor lacerations under his arm, on a hind leg, and a minor laceration to the inside of his left check. Thankfully, the Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained horse did not require major veterinary treatment.

Unfortunately, the Chris Waller-trained Ohope Wins was humanely euthanised following the fall.

UPDATE:

Racing Victoria have confirmed that Jye McNeil will be discharged from hospital on Sunday morning.

Mark Zahra has also issued a statement on his Instagram Story, following the outpour of support he received for his health.

Below is the statement:

“Thanks everyone for the calls and messages,” said Zahra.

“I’m ok and home. No serious damage.

“Very stiff and sore, but nothing a cold glass of champagne can’t fix.”
