How can the Devils lure Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera to Tasmania?

The 23-year-old star is contracted with St Kilda until the end of 2027… but what happens after that continues to be a major talking point in footy circles.

The Saints would absolutely love to keep him - and all other current 17 clubs would want his services - not to mention the incoming Devils who will have cash to splash.

With all of this in mind, Kane Cornes has put together a 10-point plan that Tassie can offer ‘Nas’ in order to win his signature.

Nasmania

10 ways Tassie can lure Nasiah

1 - $2.5m franchise fee

“You offer Nas a $2.5 million one-of payment as their franchise player. Of course that is half of the $5 million Tasmania have to use as sign-on bonuses outside the salary cap,” Cornes began on SEN Breakfast.

“Nas gets half of the that as the franchise player straight up. A one-off payment. The salary sign-on bonus that they have access to that no other club has access to.”

2 - $11.5m over five years

“You then give him $11.5 million over five years. That takes him until 2032.”

3 - $14.5m over the first five years

“So point three is the first two combined which equates to $14.5m over five years, which is going to be hard to say no to.”

4 - $6.5m in 2028

“He then gets $4 million in year one out of the salary cap. Plus the $2.5m sign-on bonus which brings it to $6.5 million in 2028.”

5 - $3m in 2029

“You then pay him $3 million in year two.”

6 - $1.5m in 2030

“It drops down to $1.5 million in year three

7 - $1.25m in 2031

“Then it drops to $1.25m in year four.”

8 - $750k in 2032

“In year five when Tassie are going to be competitive, we hope, his wage drops right back to $750,000.”

9 - Big money upfront

“This would be the final year of his contract in 2032. He takes all the money up front, less salary is taken when they are in the window in year five.”

10 - Gives Tassie time

“I just think the timeframe lines up. It gives Tassie five years to prove to him that they can win.

“Then if they’re in the window he gets the $14 millions over five years, which will be difficult to say no to.

“And then he will only be 29 in 2032 when that deal expires. He can either stay if Tassie prove to him that they are a legitimate finals candidate and a prospect of winning a premiership.

“Or he can then head back to South Australia and finish his career as a 29-year-old for the next five years at Port Adelaide or the Crows. Or head to Victoria to a flag challenger.

“That is Nasmania. That’s my 10-point plan on how to lure Nas to Tassie.”
