Chris Fagan is joining Carlton.

In a stunning coup, the Blues have won the race for the Brisbane Lions triple premiership coach.

Fagan received numerous approaches in the wake of his Lions resignation.

But Carlton have convinced him to join Josh Fraser’s revolution for the 2027 season and beyond.

The Devils made a concerted effort to get Tasmanian-born Fagan, but the 65-year-old wanted to be in Melbourne for family reasons and was eager to work in a full-time capacity.

Collingwood and Melbourne were also among the clubs to approach him, with the Pies also very eager to secure him.

But in a big off-season development, Carlton will soon confirm the signature of one of the best coaches and leaders of the modern era.

The Blues had been searching for someone to fulfil a leadership/coaching director type role.

Adam Simpson, who ironically is in the running to replace Fagan at Brisbane, has performed it in a part-time capacity.

But Carlton wanted a more permanent appointment.

Fagan guided the Lions to four consecutive grand finals and three straight flags in his decade at the Gabba.

He is a triple AFLCA coach of the year.
