Malcolm Blight believes Melbourne lack the experience to be a genuine contender in 2018.
The premiership-winning Adelaide Crows coach is worried about the lack of 100-game players at the Demons, suggesting Simon Goodwin’s highly-fancied side will miss September action for a 12th successive season.
“I’ve looked at the 100-game players,” said Blight on Sportsday SA.
“It’s a really good mark to see where you sit in the landscape of football and also premierships.
“Pretty important this. Melbourne only have eight 100-game players, Hawthorn have 17.
“That is a massive difference.
“It doesn’t mean you can’t win but I’ll guarantee you, you won’t.”
He added: “I think they’ll struggle to make the eight again.”
