Will ex-Crow's impressive SANFL performances lead to AFL lifeline?

Tyson Stengle has been instrumental in guiding Woodville-West Torrens to this year’s SANFL Grand Final.

The small forward has kicked 41 goals in 18 games and is averaging 14.2 disposals per match across the 2021 season.

Stengle has kicked six goals in two finals – a pair of three-goal outings against Norwood and Glenelg – and will be key in Sunday’s decider against the Tigers at Adelaide Oval.

The Adelaide Crows parted ways with the 22-year-old in March following a string of off-field offences after playing just 14 games since arriving from Richmond at the end of 2018.

Matt Rendell says he would be “shocked” if an AFL club didn’t pick up Stengle in this year’s National Draft.

“I’ve been watching the SANFL finals, he plays for the Eagles over there,” Rendell told AFL Trade Radio’s The Late Trade.

“He’s been fantastic during the finals, and he’s had a really good year. He’s a class act

“I’m really surprised … I thought someone would take him in the mid-season draft.

“I thought Carlton would take him in the mid-season because I assumed Eddie (Betts) was going to finish up this year, that didn’t happen, and he’s finished off the year really well.

“He plays in the Grand Final on the weekend. I would be shocked if someone didn’t take him in the draft.

“I know Collingwood were sniffing around. I think Josh Thomas is probably on the way out and he would be a really good replacement.”

Stengle has played a total of 16 AFL games, kicking 15 goals.
