Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne has outlined some positive statistics for Essendon after they recorded their second win of the season on Saturday night.
The Bombers proved to be too good for the Demons at Adelaide Oval, running out winners by 39 points, and it’s their contested ball numbers and forward efficiency that’s impressed Hoyne.
“In terms of being able to win contest, once the ball leaves that stoppage situation, (they’re the) number two team in the comp. So, hats off to that,” Hoyne said on SEN’s Sportsday.
And he was also full of praise for their forwards.
“This forward 50 group looks a lot different to last year… they’re playing a bit more of a nimble forward 50 group with a lot more smalls, a lot more of a nimble forward line.”
“And as a result, so far this year, five games in, they are the sixth best functioning forward 50 in the competition.”
“They’ve still got work to do defensively, but (I) just want to give them a bit of credit for what they’ve been able to do in the post-clearance game, and the forward 50.”
Essendon will look to keep their winning streak going when they travel to Perth to play the West Coast Eagles on Friday.
