Collingwood father-son “upset” by GWS draft snub

Collingwood father-son prospect Nick Daicos admits he was upset that GWS didn’t contact him ahead of the draft.

Daicos is widely tipped to be taken within the top five picks in Wednesday’s draft, with the Pies readying themselves for a bid to come early on the night.

Speaking on Monday night, the gun Oakleigh Chargers midfielder said “a few people have raised a few eyebrows” that the Giants – who currently hold pick two – didn’t opt to contact him.

“I haven’t spoken to the Giants which has been a bit interesting and upsetting,” he said.

“A few people have raised a few eyebrows when I’ve told them I haven’t spoken to them, my view is they are not going to bid on me which is understandable. I think they’ll be going with another player.

“I felt (disappointed they didn’t contact me), I’ve worked really hard to hopefully be recognised as a top pick so I would’ve loved to have been picked a little bit higher.

“We’ll have to see what happens but now my attention turns to knowing I’ll end up at Collingwood so I guess the lower I’m picked, the better it is for the club so that’s where my head is at.”

Daicos, who is the son of Collingwood great Peter and brother of currently-listed Pies player Josh, impressed throughout the season for the Chargers and remains one of the most-hyped names in this year’s draft pool.
