Essendon are primed for a busy trade period as they have one of the more favourable salary cap situations in the competition.
The Bombers were quiet this past off-season, while they managed to acquire Jake Kelly from Adelaide, the rest of the list remained intact.
The club was persistent in their pursuit of GWS’ Bobby Hill, but talks reached a stalemate when the Giants refused to let their contracted forward walk.
AFL Media’s Callum Twomey is expecting the Dons to be a major player at season’s end as they look to add to their young nucleus.
“They’ve got a salary cap position that puts them in a really strong position to hit the trade market and free agency market really aggressively this year,” he said on SEN Breakfast.
“They didn’t do much trade work last year, they didn’t land Bobby Hill, that’ll again be a target for them in this coming off-season.
“I think they’ve got the coin to make some things happen and if I was going to make any big calls about the off-season, it would be that the Bombers be making some aggressive moves.”
The Dons hit the draft in 2020, recruiting Nik Cox, Archie Perkins and Zach Reid inside the top 10, before taking Ben Hobbs with pick 13 last year.
Now, according to Twomey, they are primed to get aggressive in the 2022 trade period under the guidance of long-time list manager Adrian Dodoro.
The Bombers will face Fremantle on Sunday at Marvel Stadium as they look to win their second game in as many weeks.
