Blues forward dealing with fractured wrist, recruit a test after suffering hip injury

Carlton coach Michael Voss has revealed that Lachie Fogarty fractured his wrist in the collision with Fremantle’s Nathan Fyfe that saw the forward suspended for one game.

When asked if the Blues considered challenging the ban, Voss said it would have been pointless, given the injury that was suffered by the underrated Blue.

“My gut feel at that particular time looking at it without slow motion in mind is that it was a good contest, and I still believe that,” Voss told SEN Mornings.

“I think it was still a great contest between Fogarty and Fyfe, but obviously if you get it a little bit wrong now you pay the consequences.

“We thought it might be worth challenging. Unfortunately, Fogarty’s fractured his wrist so it means he’s going to miss a couple of games. We don’t know how many games that’s going to be at the moment. We’re hoping it’s on the shorter term.

“In the end, it was somewhat pointless (to challenge).”

Elijah Hollands was subbed out of the game with a hip/adductor injury, with the forward seen icing the area on the bench.

However, the scans have come up clean, with Voss saying he is a test for this weekend’s clash with Adelaide.

“The way he pulled up was pretty sore, but he was cleared of any major damage,” Voss said.

“He’s a test for this week. If he’s able to get through training this week then he might be available, but he did pull up quite sore in that particular area.

“After getting the scans, they’ve come back reasonably clear. He might be a test for this week.”

Carlton skipper Patrick Cripps revealed on SEN Breakfast that Sam Walsh would play this weekend, assuming he gets through training.

Voss confirmed the news, saying he’s excited to see the star midfielder back in the mix.

“I think with Sam, there was a lot of speculation around how he was and the reality is we just needed to get through some milestones with him,” he said.

“We’re so grateful that we get to have him back. He’s obviously a very important player to us.

“So obviously we took our time to be really clear with where we needed to go with him.

“I can confirm he gets through training and he’ll play, it’s great to have him back.”
