Queensland great Corey Parker has paid credit to the Gold Coast Titans after they won their first game of the 2024 season on ANZAC Day.
The Titans were victorious against the One New Zealand Warriors, winning 27-24, to spoil the party in New Zealand’s second ever home ANZAC Day game.
It snapped a six-game losing streak for the Gold Coast team, with prop Jaimin Jolliffe and the recalled Tanah Boyd starring in the upset.
“I posed a question on this show a couple of week ago: when will the Titans win their first game?... I certainly didn’t pick it was going to be this game in New Zealand,” Parker said on Mondays with Ben Davis.
“Tanah Boyd had his finest game in Titans colours and was able to score a try and a really crucial field goal on the stroke of half time.
“I thought Jaimin Jolliffe was one of their better stars, he really laid a platform and a lot of workload on his plate.
“They (Titans) were up for it, they’ve been a very much improved team and they got the job done.”
Parker also praised fullback AJ Brimson, saying, despite the Titans poor start to the season, he would still slot in seamlessly in State of Origin.
“If AJ Brimson is handed a Queensland jersey, I don’t think it matters what number is on it,” Parker said.
“He’s one of those players. He’s x-factor, he’s a ball of energy, he competes really hard and they’re the big attributes you need in big games.”
Brimson scored a double, had two line breaks, and ran for 186 metres, reminding coach Des Hasler why fullback is his primary position.
The Titans had two heartbreakingly close losses the two weeks prior, losing to the Canberra Raiders in extra time and by four to the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.
They will hope to continue their winning ways this week against the Melbourne Storm on Saturday.
