Should Zac Lomax still be considered for NSW Origin?

SEN's Jimmy Smith has declared Zac Lomax should not be picked for NSW Origin following a poor showing against the Sydney Roosters.

Following a standout start to the season after shifting to the wing, Lomax was atop the Dally M leaderboard going into ANZAC Round and had firmed as an Origin bolter for Michael Maguire’s new look NSW Blues.

However, after a big 60-18 loss against the Roosters on ANZAC Day, Smith has declared Lomax’s old habits have likely ruled him out of an Origin debut.

“In two flick passes, Zac Lomax probably played himself out of a sky-blue jersey,” Smith said on NRL Crunchtime.

“The game he had the week before against the Warriors… he was phenomenal. Easily the best player on the park.

“If you’ve got a guy coming out of trouble, what you don’t want is the guy who might think I’ll flick pass my way out of trouble.”

However, NRL Crunchtime co-host Justin Horo revealed he’s not prepared to rule out Lomax just yet.

“I’m not ruling him out, I’ve still got him in my team,” Horo added.

“I’m not going to let one poor period for Zac Lomax in this year overrule a really good start to the season.”

Lomax currently sits tied-second on the point scoring leaderboard with 70, with six tries and three try assists.

Despite their slow start to the season, Horo was also not surprised by the Roosters’ thumping of the Dragons.

“I sort of expected this from the Roosters,” Horo said.

“The stars that they have in their team that, in my opinion, have been underperforming in James Tedesco and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves… (they) looked a bit flustered and a little bit lost.

“If those players don’t hear it from the media, they’re definitely hearing it internally… so I expected a performance but not to this level and not against a team that was playing really good football.”

Lomax is expected to play in his desired position of centre for the Dragons' derby match against the Cronulla Sharks. It comes after Moses Suli was ruled down under the NRL's 11-day stand down protocol following a category 1 concussion in the first minute of Thursday's game.
