Port Adelaide young gun Jason Horne-Francis is facing backlash for his undisciplined behaviour during the Gold Coast Suns clash on the weekend.
With just nine disposals and two goals in the 14-point loss, his frustration was evident in giving away four free kicks by being overly physical with nearby opponents.
It was criticised by many including Kane Cornes.
With his competitiveness striking a high and the hunger to win driving the momentum for the Power, the heat from the Suns in the midfield became too much for Horne-Francis.
But to counter his hotheadedness, V/AFL legend Malcolm Blight has provided some simple advice for the 21-year-old.
The former Geelong and Adelaide coach has urged Horne-Francis to simply watch the footy when he is in a similar situation again.
“It’s the impetuosity of youth,” Blight said on SEN’s Sportsday SA.
“I’d rather him be that way and bring him back, then trying to get him there. So, you know you can actually coach that back into him, so when someone touches you just look at the footy.
“I had a few blokes like this as well. When someone does that to you, don’t look at them, look at the ball, look at the umpire and look at what’s next.
“You can actually defuse that, and you’ll become a lot better player and much a more disciplined player by doing that.
“I’ve seen kids do this forever. Just look at the footy and it distracts your thought process.”
Horne-Francis, with a clearer head, will hope to contribute for the Power when they face Richmond at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
