Mollie O’Callaghan has taken the gold medal in the women’s 200m freestyle with a perfectly executed swim against Ariarne Titmus.
The star swimmers, who are both coached by Dean Boxall, were neck and neck in the final 50m only for O’Callaghan to edge ahead to beat Australian champion Titmus.
It was the first time a pair of Aussie swimmers had finished one-two in an Olympic final since Ian Thorpe and Grant Hackett in 2004.
O’Callaghan, 20, was fifth at the 100m before unleashing a rapid finish to win in an Olympic record time of 1:53.27 with Titmus behind with a time of 1:53.81
Hong Kong’s Siobhan Haughey finished third to take bronze.
“It's such an honour to be with everyone and compete against Arnie. She is an absolute gun,” O’Callaghan told Channel 9 after beat Titmus.
“She races like an absolute beast and it's an honour to train alongside her and have such a great team around us.”
She added: “To be honest, I did it for the country, I didn't do it for myself. I'm racing for all these people.”
Elsewhere in the pool, Kaylee McKeown won the semi-final in the women’s 100m backstroke, posting the second fastest time (57.99) of the qualifying heats.
Away from the water and the Hockeyroos were in great nick when defeating Great Britain 4-0 to go top of Pool B.
In the boxing ring, Harry Garside was eliminated by Hungarian Richard Kovacs in the 63.5kg division and missed out on a spot in the quarter-finals as a result.
Chris Burton won a silver medal in the individual equestrian event aboard Shadow Man.
