American Noah Lyles has won a photo finish to claim the 100M final and be crowned the fastest man on Earth.

Hundredths of a second separated Lyles and Jamaican Kishane Thompson, with both recording a time of 9.79 seconds.

American Fred Kerley claimed bronze in what was a stacked Olympic final.

It was the United States’ first 100M men’s gold medal since Justin Gatlin in 2004.

Reigning Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs of Italy appeared to suffer a hamstring injury during the race.

The World Record time of 9.58 seconds remains in the hands of Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt, who set the time in 2009.
