Brisbane star Cam Rayner is set for a big payday at the end of next season.
The 24-year-old is enjoying the best season of his career so far and his teammate Dayne Zorko thinks he’s currently amid the best six-week patch of his life.
Across the last six weeks, Rayner has averaged 16.66 disposals and 2.33 goals in a midfield/forward role and that’s seeing his potential contract value increase exponentially.
With Rayner entering free agency at the end of next season, AFL Media’s Cal Twomey expects the former No. 1 pick, who hails from the Western Jets in Melbourne, to receive some massive offers from Victorian clubs.
“Right here right now, Cam Rayner’s free agency value is going up and up and up,” Twomey told AFL.com.au's Gettable.
“The Brisbane Lion will be a restricted free agent next year when he comes into his eighth season at the club.
“He’s in absolutely scintillating form, he’s kicked 20 goals since Round 10 and has dominated games.
“He’s going to get some HUGE Victorian offers next year.”
Twomey named six Victorian clubs that he thinks will come with big offers for the Lion and he doesn’t expect Rayner to re-sign at Brisbane soon given how much he could earn if his form continues to improve.
“I expect Essendon, Geelong, Richmond, St Kilda, the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood and probably even more to be all over him next year,” Twomey said.
“There’s a few that wouldn’t have the cash to be in the discussion.
“He’s got previous contract extensions done early, but there’s no way he’d be signing this free agency deal now or early because his value is going up.
“He’s been in the form of his life.”
Rayner most recently had a three-goal, 22-disposal performance in last Sunday’s 85-point win over St Kilda.
He’ll hope to keep up his good form when the second-placed Lions face the Giants on Saturday at the Gabba.
