Jake Waterman has no plans to leave West Coast anytime soon.
The 26-year-old forward is enjoying his best season in 2024 which has delivered a career-high 48 goals.
He is contracted with the Eagles until 2025, but there have been reports that the likes of Geelong and Melbourne are showing considerable interest as he negotiates an improved deal at his current club.
SEN WA’s Tim Gossage reported earlier this week that Waterman was closer to signing an extension at West Coast and the player himself suggests that is also the case.
Waterman was asked on SEN WA Breakfast if he has any intentions of leaving the Eagles.
“No, I don’t,” was his response.
“I see all the media publicity going on about other clubs being interested, but I’ve been pretty steadfast with my manager (Paul Peos) the whole year saying I want to get something done with West Coast.
“Whatever happens outside of that, please leave me out of it. I know a little bit gets out to the media and whatnot.
“We’ve still got three games to go and that is just my total focus. All the stuff outside of that is pretty irrelevant.
“If I get something sorted with the club in the next three weeks then that would be great, but if not hopefully it won’t be much longer after that.”
A recent report in the West Australian indicated that Waterman and his management have been attempting to renegotiate his current contract which is believed to be around $500,000 per season.
Judging by his comments, it looks highly likely that will occur and he will remain an Eagle for the foreseeable future.
