David King can’t see Brisbane losing their Elimination Final against Carlton at the Gabba on Saturday night.
While the Lions lost to the Blues at home in Opening Round 85-86, King thinks that they’ll simply get the job done this weekend and progress to a Semi-Final against the loser of the Sydney v GWS Qualifying Final.
King thinks that Brisbane’s talent will overwhelm Carlton and he’s tipping them to make it eight wins from their last nine games at home.
“We’ve got Brisbane in there (the pressure index),” King said on SEN Whateley.
“It’s like the old Nike marketing, ‘Just Do It’, just go and get it done.
“They've just got to be mature enough this week to be aware of the ambush that Carlton is trying to bring to them, be diligent, stay focused and on task, and I'm sure they will.
“I think this is one of the easier tips of the round really, Brisbane at home. Apart from in bits this year where they’ve been wobbly, they’ve been bulletproof up there for two or three years really.
“I just can't see them losing this game. They've just got too much talent and they're too good an order (to lose).”
While King himself has been critical of Chris Fagan as he doesn’t feel the coach is maximising the talent at his disposal, he thinks that his big challenges in the coaching box will come deeper in September.
“With Chris Fagan, I think the pressure comes deeper in the finals than this week and he doesn't necessarily have to be the reason they win the game, he just can't be the reason they lose it,” King said.
“I don't see that this week. I don't see Carlton posing those challenges.
“They (Carlton) had a five-goal lead at quarter time last year in the Prelim. But you would just think that this would be the upset of the week that would shock us all.
“The pressure's there to just be diligent enough to get it done. I know they've got to win four games to win it this year and they'll be on the road after this.
“It's a tough ask to win three big finals including the Grand Final on the road after this.
“But they've just got to get it done (this week). Full stop.”
The Lions met the Blues last September also at the Gabba. In that Preliminary Final, Brisbane prevailed 79-86 to progress to the Grand Final.
